Petition updateBank of Canada: Add women from Canadian history to Canadian bank notesNew Zealand Unveils New Bank Notes - with Kate Sheppard on front of $10

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has unveiled images of its new bank notes, which will be progressively released beginning in October 2015. The attractive notes feature the same historical figures, flora and fauna that appear on current bills – but were created to resist counterfeiting (like Canada’s new polymers) and have colourful new designs. The front of the $10 bill again pays tribute to New Zealand suffragist Kate Sheppard. The other bills honour Sir Apirana Ngata (a notable Maori politician and lawyer), mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, Lord Ernest Rutherford (physicist), and Queen Elizabeth II. The Canadian BankNote Company designed and will eventually print the new bills. Isn’t it great to more diversity than on our Canadian bank notes, including a notable woman from the history of New Zealand? You can check out both sides of the new bank notes on this website: http://www.brightermoney.co.nz/ Of course I still prefer the concept for bank notes in Australia – where four out of five feature notable Australian women on one side and men on the other! Why isn’t the Bank of Canada honouring female historical figures from Canada on the front of our bills, and shouldn’t bank notes that belong to all Canadians show more diversity? Is there more discrimination against women here than Down Under? Thanks for your support and please keep sharing the petition.
