Dear Neighbors, Please take a moment to read the following questions (posed by homeowners) and answers (provided by BEC): Q: Some residents are reluctant to sign up for Internet service because this is new to BEC and they do not want to commit to two years for something that does not have a proven record. What guidance can you provide? A: Residents may cross-out the 2 year commitment line, initial it and sign the agreement anyway. This will tell us that they are interested but not willing to commit 2 years to the project. Although the BEC Board would probably feel more comfortable with a commitment, we will still consider it. Remember the point of the agreement is to show the board that Members in your area want us to do this, not to unfairly lock people into an agreement for financial gain. It’s to show intent. Q: May homeowners break the contract if they believe the service is suboptimal? A: Yes. This is not some ploy for financial gain. We are your cooperative. If the service is not up to par I will not allow them to bill for the service until it meets my standard of acceptance which are higher than the non-technical person. I am designing an internet service I want us all to be proud of and a service I would welcome in my home. Q: Will the speed be slowed after a certain amount of usage? A: No, there will be no cap on usage. Q: Can we change packages (to increase/decrease speed) during 2 year contract? A: You may increase your package at any time. Q: In the application and agreement for Electric Service form #7, the text states a possible 'Engineering Fee' or 'Contribution in Aid of Construction' charge. Is there a possible setup fee or installation fee? A:The Engineering fees and aid to construction refer to new electric service and do not apply to broadband. At this time, the only fees for broadband will be the monthly subscription charge. Q: Will we be charged an installation or any other type of fee? A: At this time the only fee will be the monthly charge for service. Q: How will BEC run the fiber from the electric pole where the meter is mounted to the house? A: The route BEC will take from the pole to the house will most likely be underground unless overhead service already exist. Q: Is it necessary to submit a copy of Driver’s License and specify social security number on the application? Many are fearful to include this information in the US Mail or email. A: The completion of the application was intended to be done in the office. Please do not email or US Mail any sensitive information such as SSN or TDL. Members may provide that information after the application is received at BEC. Please submit your applications today.
