Ban TikTok and Snapchat in Ireland
The Issue
On that fateful Sunday morning the 16th of August around 3AM, four members of the same Family suffered serious injuries in a horrific crash on the M9 motorway. The car involved was travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway before the collision occurred around 3AM, a heart-stopping scenario that chills everyone to the bone. Disturbingly, this was NOT just a Random Accident. The car, allegedly stolen, BUT has since been confirmed that the BMW was SOLD, NOT to any of the 5 Teenagers. Sold to an "Older individual??" Perhaps ??? And then Passed onto these 5 Teenagers. The BMW previously failed to stop when ordered by Gardaí, who were advised not to engage as the vehicle travelled in the wrong direction.
The heartbreaking FACTS are that INNOCENT Family Members are still in Hospital with Very Very Serious Injuries. An INNOCENT Child is Probably Traumatised for Life because of this Unforgivable, Dangerous and Reckless car crash incident. This Absolutely begs for urgent action. Platforms like TikTok and Snapchat play a significant role in promoting dangerous behaviours among teenagers, fueling a climate where reckless acts are glorified and shared. These social media platforms have increasingly become breeding grounds for peer pressure and risky challenges, which may have contributed to this unfathomable tragedy in Kildare.
The MASSIVE HUGE Question here is WHY were these joyriding videos NOT TAKEN DOWN from Tiktok MONTHS AGO???? These videos seemed to have been allowed to stay up on Tiktok for MONTHS and possibly Longer than that up on Tiktok and probably passed around SNAPCHAT countless times.
Statistics show that social media usage is associated with increased risk-taking behaviours, particularly among adolescents. A study conducted by CyberSafeIreland found that over 90% of children in Ireland use social media daily, often unsupervised. Furthermore, a survey reported by the Journal of Adolescent Health indicates that those engaging in risky behaviours are significantly influenced by the content they consume online. These trends are alarming and demand immediate intervention.
The emotional and physical devastation wreaked by that crash cannot be overstated. Families have been shattered, and communities are left in TRAUMA, questioning how such senseless actions could happen and what can be done to prevent them in the future.
By banning TikTok and Snapchat in Ireland, we can take a substantial step towards safeguarding our youth, reducing harmful digital influences, and curbing behaviours that lead to such tragedies. We need to prioritize the mental health and safety of our young people and address the root causes of such reckless conduct.
Join us in demanding action from the Irish government and relevant authorities to ban TikTok and Snapchat. Let’s protect our children from the dangerous effects of these platforms and honour the memory of those we have lost by preventing further tragedies. Please sign this petition to make a change.
