Hello everyone! Thank you so much for your support. In the last week, I have met with multiple people in the district (and outside of it) about the confederate flag issue. In essence, over the summer, the superintendent and his cabinet changed district policy to be more proactive than reactive. I have not seen the policy posted, but I will continue to search for it to keep the district accountable. According to the superintendent and president of the board of education, if a teacher wishes to put something up that is considered "controversial" - which is aimed specifically at the confederate flag - they would have to get the permission of their principle and/or the superintendent. The goal is not to problematize BLM or Pride flags but censor hateful flags and symbols without providing precedent to ban everything. It is a start, and I and others will continue this work. For now, I have found that this petition is no longer needed. We have done the work and gotten a positive response!!!
