Thanks everyone for the continued support. Last Wednesday, the Policy Review Committee met and had a fruitful conversation around discipline policies and practices. The Discipline Department presented data on suspensions and we were able to see spikes in OSS happening at the seventh and ninth-grade level. The Board, however, requested additional data be presented at August's Policy Review Meeting so we could dig more into subgroup-data and have a clearer picture.
The Board currently does not have a ban on suspensions and instead has a policy requiring multiple interventions before a student is suspended. However, at the meeting the Policy Committee said they would consider a ban on suspensions for K-7 that will be discussed at the next meeting. They also hinted at a policy ensuring recess for all.
Overall, it was a very positive meeting and we're looking forward to continuing to work with the Board to ensure equitable discipline policies for all students.
