A quick update on our last blog is that we have now sent funds to Merrueshi, Kenya to equip a second manyatta (as promised) with these life saving lights. If you haven't had a chance yet to read about this initiative, just look for the previous update on this site where you can read all about it.
Since we posted that update a couple of days ago, your generous donations have amounted so far to 70% of the cost of equipping another manyatta (village). Thank you all so much!!
As we said, we will equip these manyattas one at a time as funds roll in. Each one is transforming lives of these rural communities and saving lions from being killed. And every penny counts.
Linking conservation to community benefits is a win win. The villagers get a light in their houses for the first time ever ( can you imagine living your life in total darkness after the sun goes down?) and the perimeter lights round the village will deter the predators from attacking their livestock. The householders begin to see the lions, no longer as dangerous animals that need to be killed, but as bringing good things into their lives. It's a WIN WIN bringing a peaceful co-existence where once there was slaughter.
