Our congratulations to Ian Blackford and the Scottish National Party on their successes in the General Election yesterday.
Thank you Ian for promptly responding to the LionAid petition calling on the Government to ban the import of lion trophies into the UK and we are absolutely delighted with the message you have posted on this petition endorsing your determination to campaign on this very important issue.
We have worked with members of the SNP on many occasions since we began this campaign and in every single case, we have always received a lot of support, with MPs often very much going the extra mile to help us push this crucial issue forward with the UK Government.
The UK Government has published its 12-week consultation on the import and export of hunting trophies and the deadline for submission is the 25th January 2020. We urge everyone to take the time to send in their submission ( here is the link) and our guide to help you complete the 15 questions is on our website here.
It is so very important that as many people as possible respond to this questionnaire, or at the very least send an email to Defra here outlining your views. It will certainly help us and Ian Blackford continue to press the case for a ban on the import of hunting trophies into the UK.
We are delighted that Boris Johnson has previously indicated that he will “promote and protect the welfare of animals, including banning imports from trophy hunting” so with his overwhelming success at the polls yesterday, and with our petition now well in excess of 597,000 signatures, we need to make sure he makes good on his promise.
Well done to all the newly successful Members of Parliament and a particularly big thank you to Ian Blackford for taking the time to respond to our petition yesterday and in such a positive manner.
