A big thank you to everyone of you who have taken the time to add your name to the growing list of people who want to see UK Environment Minister, Michael Gove,  ban once and for all, the importation of lion trophies into the UK.
Because of your fabulous efforts, we now have been able to secure important meetings with Members of the UK Parliament over the next few weeks to discuss this crucial issue - so the more signatures we can amass between now and then, the greater pressure we can apply to persuade Michael Gove that the time to act is NOW!

Lions are disappearing fast and face extinction in Africa, and one of the significant contributors to that decline is trophy hunting. Lions are killed by trophy hunters purely for entertainment. There is absolutely NO way to justify lion trophy hunting as a conservation measure as has been proposed by hunters and their allies. And whilst any country continues to allow the import of lion trophies, it is condoning this cruel practice. France, the Netherlands and Australia have shown the way to go and the USA too, whilst not declaring an outright ban, has put in stringent requirements that have made it all but impossible to bring lion trophies into their country.

Just this week, Botswana has announced it is entertaining a return to elephant trophy hunting, after its admirable decision back in 2014 to ban all forms of trophy hunting in the country. How long will it be before Botswana also returns to lion trophy hunting?
We need to convince African lion range states that trophy hunting is not conservation and will only bring forward the date of extinction of these iconic animals.

So please continue to share this petition with friends, colleagues and family and let’s see if we can reach our next goal of 250,000 signatures.

Please take a moment to add your name to our newsletter mailing list at the foot of any page on our website, www.lionaid.org to keep update with developments and please, if you can, add a donation to help us fund this very important fight to save our remaining lions from their impending extinction. Thank you if you can. You can donate here.
