Dear Neighbor,
Thank you for signing the petition to ban large-scale ground-mounted solar in Yorktown’s residential districts. Your support has made a real impact, but now is the time to take the next step.
🗓️ Public Meeting
📍 Yorktown Town Hall
📅 Monday, May 20th
🕢 7:30 PM
This is your only opportunity to speak directly to the Town Board before they decide. We urge you to attend and tell our elected officials:
➡️ BAN large-scale ground-mounted solar in residential areas — no grandfathering.
Your voice matters. Let’s make it count.
🗣️ While we strongly encourage you to share your own experiences, feelings and insight, we’ve provided the following talking points to help you comment at the meeting:
Protect Neighborhood Character: These industrial solar farms do not belong in suburban neighborhoods. They permanently alter the charm, livability, and scenic quality of our community.
Deforestation & Environmental Impact: Large-scale installations often require the clear-cutting of wooded lots, destroying wildlife habitats and increasing runoff — undermining the very sustainability they claim to support.
Residential Zoning Violations: These projects are industrial by nature. They should be built in appropriately zoned areas, not next to homes, schools, and parks.
No Grandfathering: Projects that were in consideration before the new zoning should not be exempt. Every resident deserves equal protection, regardless of timing.
Alternative Sites Exist: Better-suited commercial and industrial zones exist for these developments that don’t put residents at risk or sacrifice green space in neighborhoods.
Please bring a friend, a neighbor, or a family member. A strong showing on May 20th is critical to protecting our town’s future.
Thank you again for standing with us.
