Dear Friends
Thank you very much for signing our petition to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon proposing a new agreement to protect the high seas and restore ocean health.
We're delighted to tell you that the campaign is going well - in just the first week, more than 80,000 people added their voice alongside yours!
And at the same time as we launched our petition, we released our overall rescue package for the ocean. We had some fantastic media coverage - including this piece in The Guardian http://bit.ly/gocguardian - and you can find out more about our proposals on the Mission Ocean site - http://missionocean.me
We know what needs to be done to restore ocean health but we can't do it alone.
The ocean is in decline as a result of pollution, overfishing and other damaging activities. The good news is that we have a fantastic chance to turn things around this September when the United Nations will discuss the future of the high seas and how they should be governed.
I'd like to ask you to invite your friends to join the mission - a healthy, living ocean is nothing less than our life support system on Earth. It's vital that we start turning the tide on ocean decline now and that as many people as possible join the call for action.
Please share our petition http://change.org/missionocean via Twitter or Facebook, or by e-mail, and ask your friends and family to join the mission of a lifetime.
It's time to extend the rule of law to the deep blue half of our planet. We need a new international agreement to secure ocean health and the sustainable and equitable use and conservation of high seas resources.
Thank you again for your support.
