Dear Friend
First of all, THANK YOU.
You are one of more than 270,000 people asking Ban Ki-moon and world leaders to protect the high seas and restore ocean health.
With my fellow Commissioners, I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support that you and others around the world have shown over the last three months.
On Sunday evening, Global Ocean Commission Co-chair Trevor Manuel, together with National Geographic explorer-in-residence Sylvia Earle, delivered our petition to His Excellency Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson in New York.
Mr. Eliasson highlighted the importance of ocean health for the planet and future generations.
This petition is a wake up call for global leaders and I am very hopeful that as a result of the power of our collective voice, the UN General Assembly opening this week in New York will now initiate negotiations for a new high seas agreement.
We all depend on a healthy ocean and its restoration is an urgent global priority. Once again, thank you for your support.
