For the right to a dignified death to be recognised by the UN as Article 31 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

For the right to a dignified death to be recognised by the UN as Article 31 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

El problema

For millions of people worldwide, every new day is an excruciating test:
we find ourselves forced to depend on other people for the most elementary actions. Simple things like going to the toilet, or even changing position in bed, which is where our life has become limited to.

We are a burden we don't want to be; that no normal person would ever want to be to their family. And, don't get me wrong, it's not as if they aren't dedicated and loving, no. The problem is that the sliver of dignity we have left in this pathetic situation can't find any sense in "living" this way.

Because life, dear reader, is much more than waiting for death and wishing for it as a liberation.

Because, according to Article 3 of the Universal Declaration, we are all born equal, and are equal in dignity and rights, and, endowed with reason and conscious, and must behave fraternally with each other. Surely, we must be able to help those who, consciously, decide to end their unbearable suffering and are not able to do so themselves.

Because, according to Article 1, every individual has the right to life, to freedom and to the safety of his or her person, as well as the right not to be tortured. Surely, they must be able to decide how to terminate that life and avoid unnecessary suffering.

Sign for the right to decide about your own life and your own body and for the decriminalization of the altruistic help needed to make it so. We support this petition for the UN's recognition of the right to a dignified death as a new Article in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Article 31.
