📢 PENNSYLVANIA PARENTS, FAMILIES & EDUCATORS — YOUR VOICE MATTERS!
I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to contact their Pennsylvania state representatives and senators regarding the proposed policy involving school access for individuals required to register under Megan’s Law.
This is about asking important questions, understanding what the proposed legislation would allow, and making sure the safety of ALL children is considered.
You do not have to be a parent to care about school safety. You can be a grandparent, teacher, childcare worker, school employee, or concerned community member.
I’ve included an email template that you can personalize and send directly to your legislators.
Please take a moment to make your voice heard. Respectful questions and informed community involvement matter.
Our children’s safety deserves thoughtful consideration.
Please share so more Pennsylvania residents have an opportunity to participate.
Dear Representative/Senator [Last Name],
My name is [Your Full Name], and I am a resident of [City/Town], Pennsylvania.
I am writing to express my concerns regarding the proposed legislation concerning individuals required to register under Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law being permitted access to school property because they have a child enrolled in that school.
As a parent/community member/taxpayer, I believe the safety of ALL children must remain a priority. I understand that parents have rights and responsibilities concerning their children. However, I am concerned about how this proposed policy could affect the safety of other students, staff members, and families.
I would appreciate clarification on the following questions:
- What specific circumstances would allow a registered individual to enter school property?
- Would this apply to all individuals on the registry or only certain classifications?
- Would schools have the authority to deny access based on the individual’s offense history or existing restrictions?
- What protections would be required to ensure the safety of other children?
- Would schools be required to notify parents or guardians about applicable safety arrangements?
I recognize that every situation is different and that individuals may have different legal restrictions. However, I believe school access decisions must carefully consider the safety and well-being of the entire school community.
I respectfully ask that you review this proposal carefully, consider the concerns of families and educators, and provide clarification on the safeguards that would be in place.
Our children deserve to learn in an environment where their safety is taken seriously.
Thank you for your time and for representing our community.
Sincerely,
[Your Full Name]
