Ban distribution of stock tokens without company consent
The Issue
I am deeply troubled by the actions of Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited, which since August 2026, has been creating and distributing so-called "tokens" represented as being backed 1:1 by shares of companies. This claim is misleading, and in reality, amounts to counterfeiting. These unauthorized stock tokens pose significant risks to both the companies and unsuspecting investors.
Stock tokens are a relatively new innovation, allowing individuals to trade fractions of shares of publicly traded companies in the form of cryptocurrency tokens. While this model suggests a novel approach to democratizing stock ownership, it raises serious ethical and legal concerns when conducted without the explicit consent of the underlying companies whose shares they purport to represent. In this case, Robinhood Assets has not obtained the necessary authorization, and their claims about the backing of these tokens are false.
Without regulation and prior company consent, tokens can destabilize the market, undermine the integrity of legitimate stock ownership, and lead to financial losses for investors who are misled into believing they hold a vested interest in the actual equities. Moreover, companies are unable to manage or track the distribution and ownership of their shares, which also poses governance concerns.
To protect the integrity of financial markets and shield individual investors from fraudulent practices, we must demand a complete ban on the distribution of any stock tokens without prior consent from the companies they claim to represent. This regulatory change will ensure that legitimate businesses are not tarnished by unverified financial products that could dilute or misrepresent their public stock offerings.
I urge financial regulatory bodies to take decisive action against such disreputable practices and to foster a financial ecosystem where transparency and genuine equity ownership are prioritized. By signing this petition, you will support a crucial step toward protecting the rights of companies and ensuring justice for all investors. Sign now to help enforce stricter regulations and uphold market integrity.
