Hotel Kilkenny in Kilkenny City is being urged to cancel its hosting of a hare coursing function this April. The "Irish Coursing Club Awards" is due to take place at the hotel on Saturday 13 April 2019, following a coursing season in which hares once again suffered horrendous hits and maulings. Official records show that hares also died from injuries or were destroyed by vets due to the severity of the injuries.

No business should facilitate an event which celebrates what is one of Ireland’s worst forms of cruelty to animals - an activity which is illegal in all our neighbouring jurisdictions.
Hotel Kilkenny is hosting the awards despite being made aware of the cruelty of hare coursing. The hotel previously hosted the coursing function in 2016 when the awards handed out included "Coursing Greyhound of the Year". According to the Irish Coursing Club website, “Hotel Kilkenny looked after us exceedingly well”.
In an email to the hotel, ICABS stated at the time: “This awards event was for the owners of greyhounds unleashed to chase live hares in an activity considered cruel and barbaric by the majority of Irish citizens. Every coursing season, hares suffer painful injuries and die during coursing meetings around the country. During the past coursing season, we witnessed dozens of agitated hares in an enclosure prior to being uses as lures for greyhounds. We have seen hares being hit and mauled into the ground.”
ACTION ALERT
Join us in appealing to Hotel Kilkenny to show compassion for the hares terrorised, injured and killed by coursers and scrap its hosting of these sickening awards.
