The Issue

The Issue:  Every year, thousands of fertile eggs are placed in classroom incubators  to teach children about life cycles. While well-intentioned, these projects create serious animal welfare issues. Artificial incubators frequently cause developmental stress and physical deformities if not rotated perfectly. Because schools lack long-term care plans, a vast majority of these chicks and ducklings face immediate euthanasia or abandonment in local parks where domestic birds cannot survive. Furthermore, separating birds from their mothers deprives children of learning about natural maternal care and normal animal behavior.

Our Demand: We urge the Department of Education and local school boards to:

Enact an immediate ban on all live-animal hatching projects and classroom experiments.
Transition to humane alternatives, including interactive 3D egg replicas, virtual lifecycle simulations, and live-streaming nest webcams.
Prioritize curriculum budgets toward ethical science tools that teach true respect for living creatures and  not as a tool to be discarded after use.
