A big THANK YOU to Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham for becoming the latest to express support for an end to fox hunting in Ireland.
“Fox hunting is particularly cruel and I cannot see what possible pleasure it can be to see a terrified fox chased to his death by thirty odd hounds and then torn apart,” Scott commented in a statement to the Irish Council Against Blood Sports today.
He went on to state that he is “completely against training one animal to kill another” and also against calling it a ‘sport’.
“If there should ever be a need for foxes to be contained, surely there must be a more humane way to accomplish this,” he added.
Scott was announced this week as a new patron of The Fox Project, a charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of red foxes in the South East of England.
In a post on the Fox Project’s Facebook page, Scott was quoted as saying: “Too many people think of foxes as pests, whereas we think the opposite of these fascinating animals. Over the past 20 years we have welcomed, observed, nurtured and even treated several generations of them in our own back garden and felt privileged by their presence. We were most impressed by the hard work and dedication of the team at The Fox Project and I am truly honoured to be considered as one of the Patrons to help support and raise awareness of this wonderful organisation. We all have to join forces to help our indigenous wildlife – or loose them forever."
