Call time on licence to course hares
Irish Examiner, 10 August 2020
Deputy Mattie McGrath is scare-mongering again! He recently claimed that if hare coursers aren't given a licence to course hares this year because of the RHD2 virus which is currently affecting the hare population, then the numbers of thugs 'illegally' marauding through the countryside killing hares will increase.
This threat seems to have worked last year when Josepha Madigan did a complete U turn and reversed her earlier decision not to grant a licence.
Some 77% of people in a recent Red C poll expressed a desire to see hare coursing banned. Let's hope the Green Party Ministers responsible for granting the licence this year hold their nerve. Because for the terrified hare, it matters little whether the thugs in pursuit have a licence or not.

With a RED C opinion poll confirming that a 77 per cent majority of Irish citizens want hare coursing banned (with just 9 per cent disagreeing with a ban), it is now time for politicians to consign this nasty bloodsport to history. Join us in contacting all TDs and urging them to act to ensure that a ban is urgently introduced. Visit the Oireachtas website for contact details for TDs https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/members/tds/?term=/ie/oireachtas/house/dail/33
Urge Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tanaiste Leo Varadkar to respect the wishes of the majority and ban hare coursing and all bloodsports.
