We did it. I am scheduled for a meeting with Minister Lana Popham this Thursday!
With the countless emails and phone calls you all sent out in the last week, we were able to send a clear message to the new Ministry of Agriculture. When we come together as a movement and put the work in - we get results.
I plan to mention these key things to Minister Popham:
1. In the last few weeks, our petition has surged from 33,000 signatures to over 56,000.
2. We are firm believers in a completely cage-free BC with no ‘enriched cages’.
3. We want an extremely efficient timeline to phase out cages. I will push for 2020, but mention that many of you have even asked for that to be sooner.
I’m not sure what to expect, but with how supportive Lana Popham has been of us, and how proactive the new government’s seemed to be, I’m optimistic.
We can’t get our hopes up though, and we need to be prepared to keep fighting. I will post an update next weekend giving you the full scoop on our meeting.
In the meantime, like our Facebook page to keep in touch and amplify our message: https://www.facebook.com/Cage-Free-BC-1840004186274923/?ref=br_rs
In solidarity,
Ned Taylor
