Dear fellow petitioners, I am so grateful to all of you for recently taking the time to sign the letter to Minister Eggen/Premier/Oppositional Leaders. If you haven't yet and would like to do so, please check out the following link: http://www.albertansforeducation.com/contact-your-mla/ Hopefully, the opposition party will, unlike the governing body, speak up on our behalf during this legislative session. We need the matter to be resolved urgently. It has been a tedious process through three Education Ministers (Johnson, Dirks, and now, Eggen) over the past two years, but we have made gains with respect to the math curriculum. I cannot rest though until Minister Eggen officially declares that he has put an end to the PC's un-Inspiring Education vision that is breaking down knowledge and skill levels in other subjects (science, language arts, social studies, etc) as it had done with the mathematics. If you have any further ideas as to how to get through to Minister Eggen, please let me know. In the meantime, I have decided to send Minister Eggen the following invitation each day until he acknowledges and accepts my request for us to meet. (I'm onto day 4 now :)) It should be very interesting and revealing to count the number of days it would take for a Minister of Education to respond to our parental concerns regarding the quality of our children's education. If he doesn't think this one mother is worthy of his time, then perhaps, he would think that all my fellow parents would be. Kindest regards, Dr. Nhung Tran-Davies mrgranthd@yahoo.ca https://www.facebook.com/Alberta-Math-Petition-715037091853017/ My letter/invitation-a-day to Minister Eggen: "Dear Minister Eggen, I have three young children in the Alberta public school system. I have seen firsthand the harm from the discovery math and the Inspiring Education experiments imposed upon our school system in recent years. Because you and your ministry are still operating under the PC's 2013 Inspiring Education Ministerial Orders, I worry greatly that the quality of my children's education will remain compromised by you and the ministry. Being that you have met with many stakeholders alike in the school system, I feel that we parents and concerned teachers deserve the same respect and time. I know that your schedule is busy, as is mine, but in order for us to regain faith in you as a governing body, may I request that you meet with all of us parents/professionals urgently. We do not want anymore letters of false reassurances when rumours from the inside are that you are full steam ahead with the Inspiring Education vision. We care not for deception. We need genuine, definitive answers direct from you, Minister Eggen, addressing all our concerns regarding the direction of education in Alberta."
