Dear fellow petitioners, I just learned that Minister Eggen reportedly told the Alberta School Board at a recent meeting that he had no intentions of changing the direction of Inspiring Education and that he'll operate under former PC education minister Jeff Johnson's Ministerial Order. How can he, in all good conscience, say that knowing that thousands of parents are against the discovery math and the direction of education under the Inspiring Education initiative? I can't help but think that orange is the new blue. The same old politics refracted through different prisms, giving the illusion of change. Hence my letter to Minister Eggen and all the MLAs: "Dear Minister Eggen, Premier Notley and all members of the new government and opposition, Do tell me why you have dismissed me and nearly 20,000 petitioners against the discovery math and the Inspiring Education initiative? There is a rumour that Minister Eggen, despite the concerns of thousands of parents, has appeased the educational consultants and Alberta School Board by telling them in a recent meeting that he would not change the direction of Inspiring Education? Tell me, Minister Eggen and Premier Notley, whether you are in power to appease the administrators or were you elected to protect our children? In medicine, when you are in cohorts with the drug company to push a drug that is harmful, you would be deemed unethical. Why are you pushing the discovery math and Inspiring Education initiative when so many children have been harmed by it? Why would you not listen to so many teachers, professors and parents who have spoken out against the push to radically change our schools to the inquiry-based system wherein computers are pushed on our children all day, teachers are demoted, knowledge is de-emphasized, libraries are replaced, and standards of practice are erased? We are not asking much from you. All we want is for you to put an end to the discovery math and STOP wasting money on the Inspiring Education initiative by Sept 2015. It is easy to throw money at a system to gain the popular vote. It takes wisdom and courage to actually fix the problem within the system. If you don't understand why you need to stop Inspiring Education now, then meet with us and actually listen to the informed parents. Our concerns about the curriculum are not overstated. Will you, Minister Eggen, step up to act ethically and in the best interest of our children? Your excuse of not having time to meet with me is unacceptable, as you sure have made time for everyone else except me and my fellow petitioners. Yes, for us parents and children, this is an urgent matter that needs to be resolved ASAP. Do any of you MLAs care?"
