DID YOU SEE THE FILM 'THE STING'......?

You will remember that it was about some con artists betting on winning horses after the race was won.

Did you see the Argus Tuesday March 17 2020?

HEADLINE   Market Traders are told they can use empty spaces

You know, just what I have been asking for for the last year, just what this petition that you signed, supported and commented on, has been all about.

Firstly, I am thanking you all for your support and encouragement on this page.

On Thursday 12 March 2020 B&H CC Licensing Committee met at Hove Town Hall.

I made a time limited spoken presentation at that meeting to the Councillors, backed up by printed copies of your signatures and comments and those two paper petitions, signed by Market Traders and Market Visitors, nearly 600 in total.

What I gave them was a necessarily condensed version of all that I have been telling you since this Petition began.  You can view these and other peoples comments on this sites updates.

It was clear that the case that I was presenting was beyond dispute.  Some Councillors now spoke in agreement with this statement.  Thank you to Jim Whitelegg and the others.  Councillors who had either not responded to my earliest communications or had done so negatively have now appeared smiling on the page in the newspaper that reports this change of response.

The article in the Argus confirms the Licensing Committees UNANIMOUS backing of the Councils 'suggestion' to leave things as I had suggested in the beginning.

                        Perseverance pays off.

New contracts for Traders in Upper Gardner Street Market have arrived at our homes.

The new wording is that   'UPPER GARDNER STREET MARKET TRADERS CAN EXTEND TO AN ADJACENT MARKED TRADING AREA WHEN IT IS UNOCCUPIED'

That is all I was asking for and with your help, that is what we've got.

A final word.  I opened this message with reference to The String...   I don't drive, so I need a lift to the market to take enough stock to be able to spread if there is room available.  The Captain whose picture you have seen pointing at you, on this site, has retired.

                               He was my driver.

It has taken me nearly a year to save this ruling...to be able to spread ..... Now with no driver, I can only carry enough stock on the bus for one small pitch.

That is the real 'Sting' in the tail  of this tale.....

Farewell and thank you once again for your support. Steve
