Petition updateLeave the rules for this historic market unchanged

EDITED SUMMARY OF EVENTS

Steve SwainBrighton, United Kingdom
18 Feb 2020

I began with paper petitions in May 2019 for traders and customers in Upper Gardner Street Market, Brighton.  I put it on line here shortly afterwards.

I told 60+ local councillors and the Labour, Conservative and Green Parties in Brighton and Hove.  Also, local shop keepers, the Cowley Club, Lewes and Brighton Open Market Traders, Brighton and Hove News on line, the Argus, the National Market Traders Federation and North Laine Traders Association is aware.

I printed and circulated updated developments to traders and public.

Before this petition was begun I had been in touch with the Council Licensing and Trading Standards Offices.

Jim Whitelegg@brighton-hove.gov.uk  Regulatory Services Manager wrote back to me on 20th December last year with a reminder that the 'consultation periods ended on 27th November'. Who was to be consulted and by whom was not made clear.  There is a Council meeting in March.  I do not yet have a copy of the agenda.  I hope to attend and will try to share with link in advance.  I believe that this is an open meeting and I'm hoping that as I have an interest I may be able to speak.  The Chair of Licensing and others should be there.  Their email addresses are:

Jackie.'Quinn@brighton-hove.gov.uk    christopher.henry@parliament.uk                      Carmen.Appich@brighton-hove.gov.uk        Peter.Atkinson@brighton-hove.gov.uk                                             Tracey Hill@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Now, while you are sitting at your computer might be a good time to contact them with your views.  Please.

You might also share your views with Jo Wadsworth, Editor, brightonandhovenews@gmail.com.  That report precipitated some supportive comments.  Or with news@theargus.co.uk.     The Argus report, quoting my words and using my petition photograph, was accredited to a 'News Editor' that I have yet to meet.

I think that that is all for now, so over to you!

Thank You    Steve
