I just got off the phone with the executive director from an organization called Unemployed Workers United. They were in the process of filing 2 weeks ago for FPUC reinstatement but I was told they were looking for legal representation here in Arizona. They asked me to fill out screening document before their lawyers would contact me and let me know the legalities of being a plaintiff. The questionnaire is basically the same as our civil rights lawyer requested of myself and 4 other representatives. I was told by her they are filing tomorrow. But again, I am not giving a definite on this because I was told we would be filing several weeks ago.

They are saying that now it will be a 2 step process in the courts because it isnt just for reinstatement but also for backpay. This means the federal government has to agree to do it.

We have more representation for the possibility of winning our case and receiving the backpay owed to us.

On a personal note, I want to say I am frustrated about legal action being taken at the eleventh hour for something that was as important as not suffering for the past 2 months, which could possibly extend into another 2 months or longer before we see backpay in our accounts. This isnt a criticism on our lawyer. He wanted to ensure we won but was in need of more help with the case from other lawyers. With his help, we were able to connect with this organization and other lawyers to increase our chances of winning.

However, like the states of Indiana and Maryland, this could have been achieved much sooner than it is now. Arizona is known for being different than other states in many ways and not conforming / hopping on the bandwagon (for example : no daylight savings time) We didnt choose to wait until 14 other states filed to fight for our rights. I created this petition the same week we lost our FPUC. And YOU all supported it within days of me reaching out. I want to say thank you to all who supported and continue to support.

For those who are suffering right now due to the loss of the FPUC and struggling with the job search, having let downs and feeling discouraged - I am right there with you.

I am going to continue to fight for civil rights here in arizona, because this is my home and I care about it and i care about the people here.

I am very optimistic about this pursuit and our chances are VERY good.

I requested to be informed the moment they file tomorrow. I will update as soon as I get the word.
