The Issue
Following the massacre of 50,000 peaceful protesters in Iran, I felt compelled to act and seek accountability for those responsible. The Iranian government’s persistent human rights violations demand a firm and coordinated international response. Now is the time for decisive action,
We urge the governments of the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union to authorize the freezing and seizure of assets belonging to Iranian government officials and their immediate family members within their jurisdictions. The funds recovered should be allocated toward strengthening public services and providing restitution to victims of the regime worldwide.
The Iranian regime’s brutality has inflicted deep suffering and irreparable loss on countless families. By targeting the financial resources of those in power, we can send a strong message that such atrocities will not go unpunished. This demand is not only for justice but also for healing and accountability.
Extensive research by human rights organizations and international institutions has documented the vast wealth accumulated by Iranian officials through widespread corruption, while ordinary citizens endure economic hardship. Freezing these assets would help expose and disrupt the illicit networks that enable repression and financial misconduct.
Every day without action prolongs injustice. The international community must unite against human rights abuses and ensure that no oppressor finds refuge or protection abroad.
We also call for the extension of existing sanctions to the immediate family members of sanctioned Iranian officials who knowingly:
• Profit from corruption or repression.
• Conceal, transfer, or launder assets.
• Facilitate sanctions evasion.
• Serve as financial, legal, or public enablers of the regime.
These measures—asset freezes, financial bans, and travel restrictions—are already supported by existing laws and can be implemented without delay. It is well documented that many relatives of sanctioned officials manage assets, benefit from stolen wealth, assist in bypassing sanctions, or publicly support repression while enjoying freedom abroad. This loophole weakens global accountability and must be closed.
I call on policymakers, human rights defenders, and citizens everywhere to stand with the people of Iran. Together, we can demand justice, solidarity, and an end to tyranny.
