Stop Ocean Pollution

The issue

46,000 pieces of plastic in every square mile of ocean, and we are all responsible for it. Not Australia's problem? Well, guess what, Australia alone uses 6.9 billion plastic bags annually! Want to help? There are 4 simple things that you can do to help!

1. Plastic Pollution

Not only are our actions destroying the environment but we are also killing marine creatures. Did you know that 1 piece of plastic can kill multiple animals? Yes, that's right after one animal consumes it they die, the body decomposes but the plastic bag doesn't, so eventually it will find another innocent victim and end their life as well. To help these animals, cut down on your plastic consumption or stop it entirely. Easily substitute your everyday plastic straws, drink bottles, take away containers with; paper straws, reusable containers and drink bottles. Not only are these things better for the environment but they are durable and cheaper in the long term.

2. Non-renewable Energies

Want to help even more? Stop the usage of non-renewable energy sources such as coal. What does this have to do with our ocean? Well, when man-made carbon emissions are released into the air, the ocean currently absorbs a quarter of them. These toxins increase the pH levels of our ocean, which causes acidification. Killing more marine life and poisoning much of our seafood supply. Even though this is a big issue if we all use renewable energy in our homes eventually we will be able to stop the use of non-renewable energy.

3. Sound Pollution

Sound pollution is a rising issue that is not only disturbing us but also the creatures that live in the depths of the sea. As we all learnt from Finding Dory dolphins and whales rely on echolocation for navigation and even the quietest sounds can deafen them, which can eventually kill them. Even if you aren't an animal lover, don't night time constructions, aeroplanes and loud parties annoy you? If you want to put a stop to this then read more on one of the following sites, depending on where you live.
