Mountain biking is one of the few sports that shares both Olympic and Commonwealth Games responsibilities and representation, and fills the needs of a National Sporting Organisation, yet receives no independent support or recognition by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) or any other National based funding agency.

The ASC/AIS invests significantly in both high performance and grass roots/participation development of Road, Track and BMX cycling but falls silent when it comes to MTB. The funding levels of these disciplines can be in the millions of dollars for high performance, along with significant further investments to both Cycling Australia and BMXA for grassroots participation. 

The challenge now is for the ASC/AIS to make a commitment to support both mountain biking high performance and grassroots participation as they do all other forms of cycling. MTBA is doing all that it can to have mountain biking recognised and supported nationally, but would appreciate your support. MTBA encourages all mountain bikers to sign this petition for federal government financial support of high performance and grassroots development of mountain biking.
