Hello,
Thank you for supporting this petition. In less than a week, we have nearly 400 signatures. A few updates this week:
- The Ethiopian Government bombs civilians and stops ambulances trying to reaching them – at least 64 people have been killed, 180 injured. The EU and US condemns this
- Contrary to all evidence, and reporting from the UN, the Ethiopian administration continues to maintain that starvation is not being used as a weapon of war and there is no famine in Tigray.
- The Ethiopian administration continue to block phone and Internet in Tigray and jail, intimidate and kill journalists to control reporting
- Widespread and credible reports of mass rape continue to emerge
- Ethiopian leadership vowed to 'wipe out' Tigrayans in closed-door talks with the European Special Envoy (Pekka Haavisto, Finland's foreign minister) – In effect acknowledging that what they are attempting is ethnic cleansing. Unsurprisingly this was subsequently denied – but why would Haavisto lie?
- Kudos to Labour MP Peter Khalil who spoke out, saying the Australian government should be doing more “Try to put our diplomatic effort into it, don't just put out bland statements saying ‘end the violence’. Participate in negotiations and meetings to help resolve this.”
- …Yet, still we wait for our Foreign Minister and Minister for Women (Senator Marise Payne) or our Government to show some leadership here and take some substantive action, beyond weak statements...
Please share this petition with your friends in Australia, and think what else you can do to raise awareness, like contacting your local MP or @MarisePayne.
Thank you.
