Well, here we are. It's been a while since last you've heard from me, and much has changed regarding the political landscape of the country, but one constant remains: Peter Dutton and his anti-democratic nonsense.

You might think that the wholesale defeat of the Coalition at the last election would've ended this for good, and to some extent it is diminished; Mr Potato Head no longer has ministerial power, but the threat he poses to Australia at large is still notable. Let us examine the situation as it stands and how it relates to our campaign.

Firstly, while he is no longer the Minister For Defence, Dutton has still been given something of a promotion in that after the massacre that was the 2022 Federal Election, he stands as both the Leader of the Opposition and the foremost Coalition politician in the country. Dutton now has the full and considerable power of Australian conservatism at his sole beck and call and considering his views on a variety of other matters is likely to use this to give undue airtime and legitimacy to viewpoints that are not in the best interests of his constituents, or in fact, any of us.

Secondly, despite this, technically, our goal has been achieved. Dutton is no longer a minister, thanks to a tidal wave of public backlash against the Coalition at every level of government, everywhere over the course of the last few years, which you were a major part of by being a supporter of this petition. However, as has been already made clear, the threat posed by Dutton has not abated, in fact, his ability to influence the seedier elements of our society has grown exponentially. But where does that leave us, who stood up and said "No More" to this wannabe dictator? Shall we watch as he stokes more division and hatred from the shadows? 

I say no. So for 2023, and into the foreseeable future, this campaign is rebranding. Instead of trying to remove him from office, our aim should now be to keep him and his party out of government and try and mitigate at least some of the damage that Mr Potato Head will try to do to our society to improve his chances at the next election.

Share this petition as widely as you can. Every new supporter is a visible indicator of opposition to this man and his views. The Far Right love to make people feel isolated and hopeless. Together, we can let others know they are not alone, that there are still those who believe in Democracy and are willing to stand up for it.
