Many refugees arriving in Australia are not being allowed to enter the country and find safety there. The Australian government is not only forbidding asylum seekers into Australia, but they are also sending the refugees to the island of Nauru. On Nauru, the refugees are being treated poorly and in an inhumane way. The refugees are not being allowed medical treatment, and they are being abused and neglected. The refugees on the island are being forced to live in cramped vinyl tents, sometimes during 122 degree days, and not receiving assistance during extreme flooding. Also, the refugees do not have clean bathrooms to use. Some of the refugees describe the island as “prison like”. Many of the refugees are either dying from the horrid treatment they are receiving or from suicide. Australia is going to “great lengths” to make sure the refugees suffer on Nauru and do not enter their country. The Australian government has hired a company to control the lives of the refugees living on Nauru. The people controlling the refugees perform many terrible acts, as in taking away the refugees food and sewing needles. The workers abuse the refugees, and do not provide them with a healthy place to live.
