After 2.5 years of empty promises with ZERO PROGRESS in building the new Auroville Dog Shelter, after the already assigned land at RERS had been taken away, the promised Rs. 2 crore by the Governing Board never materialised, a building permission constantly being refused and a lot of resistance by some people, things look dire for the shelter.

The old shelter, which lacks even the most basic facilities, like a rabies quarantine facility, is crumbling and needs to be rebuilt urgently. With monthly confirmed rabies cases, Auroville has been declared a rabies outbreak area. Despite the shelter having privately fundraised money to vaccinate over 1500 dogs and cats last year, the epidemic is far from over.

Last year we barely survived thanks to crowd-funding through Milaap and Donatekart but recently AUROVILLE BANNED CROWDFUNDING and FAMC refuses to cover our monthly running costs.

This means that in 4 to 5 weeks the shelter will have no more funds to even feed our 250 dogs, or continue the 1000-dogs-a-year sterilisation program which is very successful. All pleas and Open Letters with Foundation have been met with silence.

After Dr. Seetharaman had rejected the petition some month ago, we will try again. On Tuesday 8.7.2025 we will try to meet Dr. Jayanti Ravi and hand her over this petition with over 1000 signatures!

We hope that this will contribute to turn things around. We got enormous support not only from the AV Community but also the Animal Welfare Board of India, the Department of Animal Husbandry, People for Animals, PETA India and a lot of animal lovers.

Please continue to support us until we save the shelter!!!!
