Save the Hippo in Hlawga national park, Yangon, Myanmar

The Issue

In Yangon, Myanmar, there is a fantastic national park which includes a wildlife park of over 800 acres where many species of animals roam, including monkeys, dear and warthogs. It's a wonderful alternative to Zoo's and the animals generally seem well cared for and happy.

However, towards the end of the safari drive, there's a very small and cramped walled enclosure on the edge of an expansive lake with one very sad Hippo inside. The entrance to the small enclosure is so small that the hippo could not fit through even if they decided to rehome this poor animal. To make matters worse, the Hippo looks out longingly over the lake, to his natural home and other animals roaming by. The small green pool of water that he has is simply disgusting and extremely hot, with no circulation and what can only assume is over a decade of neglect and filth.

We ask your support to petition the Myanmar government to either free, or at least enlargen the Hippos dreadful enclosure to improve this poor sad animals quality of life. I cannot drive past this terribly distressing site anymore and hope that others will stand by me to demand for change and an improved life for this wonderful creature.
