We hereby ask ASUSTek Computer Inc. to provide an option to their customers to "user unlock" the bootloader of the smartphone model(s) ASUS Zenfone Max (ZC550KL - Z010D / Z010DA / Z010DD).
Currently, due to the locked bootloader, it is not possible to perform any modifications of the official stock firmware, to install a customized firmware or to gain root access to the device’s file system, even at the user’s sole responsibility.
Providing an option to unlock bootloader has been requested by the customers from ASUS technical support, and probably is being discussed internally within the company but has not happened so far. Nevertheless many manufacturers either do not lock the bootloader of their devices at all or provide a special bootloader unlock code upon user request.
Unlocking the bootloader will push the development of alternative customized firmware by enthusiasts, tailoring the operation of the device to the specific needs of various users. The users will then have a richer experience and a larger community. This will definitely attract more customers, so both parts will benefit.
