QPR fan, John Fitzsimon's email was read to CEO Lee Hoos, by Paul Morrissey, on QPR club media yesterday, 'A lot of supporters are keen on a (Ellerslie Road) stand to be named after Stan Bowles, yet now you put out a survey, asking what fans want! Can you clarify what is happening with this please?'
Lee replied, 'Yeh, in terms of the Stan Tribute, obviously there was a petition delivered to me, which had some signatures on it. I had a couple of emails about it. But I've also consulted with fans (the Supporters Consultation Committee meeting 28th April), because I've always said I want to listen to fans. It's been very difficult to consult them, because of covid, empty stadiums.'
'The easiest thing in the world for me, would have been to name the (Ellerslie Road) stand after Stan. However when I brought that up, particularly at the SCC meeting, the feedback was quite clear, which was, ‘Just 'cos you've got people who are very loud on social media, don't think the entire fanbase thinks that.' So I thought, ok, good point.'
'One person said, 'I love Stan, I loved seeing him play, but there are a lot of other players. Alan McDonald is a name that keeps getting mentioned, very often. There are a lot of other players who deserve recognition as well.'
'Another said, 'Why don't you handle this like you did the recent club badge change?' So I can appreciate there are people who feel very strongly, 'it's got to be Stan, and it has to be a stand', but there are other people who don't agree with you. Just because you feel strongly about it, you might be in the minority! You have to respect what the entire fanbase thinks.'
'Don't sit there and throw it back at me, like, 'you don't understand,' when I say no. If you want me to listen to the fanbase, I've got to listen to the fanbase. It can't be 'listen to the fanbase unless it's something I don't want to hear.'
'So I am listening to the fanbase. I'm going to do what the majority of fans tell me on this, not just one segment, or another segment, the entire fanbase. Everybody will have their chance to have their say. Lots of other players have been mentioned.'
