Dear Supporters,

I’m super honoured to share an exciting update with you. Thanks to your support, this campaign has played a key role in getting Amendment 463 tabled to the Children, Wellbeing and Schools Bill by Baroness Lister. This amendment would make it a legal requirement for Relationships and Sex Education to continue up to 18 years old, rather than ending at 16 as is currently the case.

Last Tuesday, the House of Lords discussed this amendment, and Baroness Blower read out Baroness Lister’s speech in her absence, specifically mentioning my highlighting of this gap in education and the culmination of this petition. The amendment has also gained the backing of over 55 national organisations, including NSPCC, Women’s Aid, and more, and was supported by multiple peers across different political affiliations.

This Bill presents a crucial opportunity for the government to extend RSE to young people up to 18, and I will continue holding them to account to ensure it happens. There is no excuse for not making this simple change that could save lives. The Department for Education’s position and lack of action on this issue is simply indefensible.

Your signatures and backing demonstrate the strength of public support for this cause. Every voice counts, and the milestone of this amendment being discussed is a direct result of your commitment to keeping young people safe and educated.

Thank you for standing with us, I will keep you updated as we continue pushing for change.

With gratitude,
Faustine
