It is our responsibility to protect our children. School shootings and violence are on the rise. Approximately 25% of our schools nationwide have police or armed guards in them. Put simply, it works.
Like clockwork, at my daughter’s school, an armored vehicle with armed guards arrives to pick up cash from the office. Please stand with me and tell our school boards and our legislators that our society still values our children more than we value money. Our children deserve, at a minimum, the same protection we give our money.
While an armed presence isn't the only action we should be taking to help protect our kids in schools, it should be the first. Armed professionals at every school will serve as both a deterrent and an immediate response if the unthinkable happens.
Let’s stop living in denial. Guns are not going away. The mentally ill, the unstable and the evil will always exist. There is only one way to stop a person with a gun once they’re on site and ready to kill. We need to stop pretending that it isn’t going to happen here, and plan as if it will happen here. Past events, as well as social, psychological and medical professionals tell us there are troubling times ahead. Join me in asking our leaders to make sure our children are protected.
