Greetings!

This past Saturday, NorthWest Initiative, local advocates, and I participated in a Walk for Healthy Checkouts at the local Meijer store in Okemos. The walk is part of our ongoing campaign to reduce junk food marketing at Meijer checkout. The local store manager, as well as the Director of Communications from Meijer headquarters, greeted us to hear the reasons why we are asking for healthy checkout aisles.

The presence of the manager and Director of Communications at the walk was much appreciated, but there has yet to be a commitment to pilot a healthy checkout aisle or to add additional healthier options at checkout. We have requested a meeting with headquarters, but are also asking for your help in urging Meijer to commit to healthier checkout practices and policies at all 240 stores across the Midwest.

Join us in urging Meijer to offer healthy checkout lanes by sharing the following tweets:

.@Meijer: #healthycheckouts = happy customers. It’s time to #rethinkcheckout. http://bit.ly/askmeijer

.@Meijer: support the health of your customers by offering #healthycheckout lanes! http://bit.ly/askmeijer

.@Meijer: only 3% of foods in your checkout aisles are healthy. That’s not enough. Ditch the junk for healthier options. #healthycheckout https://bit.ly/2whYwYZ
