I’m so grateful for all the support of the petition, but I know we can do better! There are people who have yet to sign and people who haven’t been convinced that they should! So I'm asking all of you to be ambassadors of this petition and to talk to your neighbors, co-workers, friends, and family and encourage them to sign. They don’t have to shop at Meijer and they don’t have to live in one of the states where Meijer resides. Even if they believe SOME, but not ALL aisles should be healthy, encourage them to sign and to state this preference in their comments as other supporters have done.
This petition was never meant to be an all-or-nothing ask of Meijer. Instead I see it as a way to demonstrate to not only Meijer, but retailers nationwide that there is growing support and growing need for healthy checkout aisles everywhere. I’m hoping they will listen and also follow the example of Aldi which is planning to make all their aisles Healthy Checklanes by the end of 2017! We need more retailers to follow suit or at least to take steps in this direction!
I would also encourage people to petition their own grocery stores for healthy checkouts and/or to sign other petitions in this movement:
CSPI’s petition to Kroger (http://bit.ly/2hXUMVQ)
CSPI’s petition to Walgreens (http://bit.ly/2iTDXti)
CSPI’s action alert to H-E-B, Walmart, Southeastern Grocers, Wakefern Food Co., Ahold Delhaize, Meijer, Hy-Vee, Albertsons, Publix, & Kroger (http://bit.ly/2iGXPTb)
Lastly, below is a thorough news article about the petition thanks to Brian Delpozo at Your Daily Dish. Share it on social media to help spread the word!
Let's keep the momentum going!
Respectfully,
Jane Kramer
