It’s taken us a little more than two years to get this far, but CA Assembly Member & Chair of its’ Privacy & Consumer Protection Committee Rebecca Bauer-Kahan has authored a bill in CA, AB-412 (the AI Copyright Transparency Act).  This bill made it out of the CA Assembly and it’s now in the CA Senate!!! - We need EVERYONE to weigh in now!!!  Here’s how you can help …

AB-412 is Co-Sponsored by SAG-AFTRA, Concept Art Association, National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA) and the Author’s Guild; and it’s supported by countless individuals and organizations.  In brief, the bill increases transparency for the use of copyrighted materials to train GenAI models.  It requires GenAI developers to provide artists & creators with information about how their materials have been used to train GenAI models.  Though copyright is a federal issue, AB-412 (which is a transparency bill) applies to ANYONE who has copyrighted materials that were used to train a GenAI model in CA, and anyone can sign that petition.  We need everyone’s help - SIGN THE AB-412 SPECIFIC PETITION AT THE FOLLOWING LINK TO HELP (http://bit.ly/46hu5E4)

You should know that on-line petitions to legislators have to each be with a specific purpose, so though you may have signed this petition to the White House in 2023, we need everyone to go sign a specific petition in support of AB-412 at a different link:  http://bit.ly/46hu5E4

And while all of this may feel incredibly repetitive, because at times I have even asked myself, “Does signing an on-line petition really even do anything?”  Without getting into too many specifics, I can briefly say is, “yes, it absolutely does.”  We have to turn each petition in to the legislators to say, “this many people signed our petition in support of this particular item” and the bigger the number we have for each item, the more seriously they take us.  So no joke, you signing, and you getting everyone you know to sign genuinely does help!
