Petition for High School Equality in Arlington, VA

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

We, the residents of Arlington County, petition the School Board and the County Board for the same facilities at any planned fourth neighborhood high school as are currently available for dedicated use by Arlington Public Schools (APS) students at each of Arlington's three existing neighborhood high schools (Wakefield, Washington-Lee, and Yorktown).

To ensure equality for all APS students, we call on the School Board and County Board to ensure that any such new neighborhood high school has: a full auditorium/theater, a gymnasium with auxiliary gymnasium space, a pool, a track, and a multi-purpose rectangular field with spectator seating, all on-site; and tennis courts, two diamond fields, and at least one practice field, all of which could be located offsite, but within walking distance/close proximity.

All of these facilities are part of the learning environment for students attending the County’s other three neighborhood high schools; students at any new neighborhood high school - whether constructed on the Career Center site at 9th St. S. and S. Highland St. or elsewhere - should likewise have equitable access to these same facilities at their own school within the same proximity and on the same terms of use as students at the other three schools.

Anything less is unfair and inequitable.
