Just a quick update, this years Arklow Seabreeze Festival did not go ahead again this year due to covid restrictions here in Ireland.
At 4pm today, it would have been Sheep race time. If you've been watching, the Pig Race will no longer ever go ahead, thanks to African Swine Fever. The IFA stepped in, and told the committee to not race pigs in the future, so naturally, instead of picking a more ethical and kinder event and indeed a thousand times more fun event, they switched to frightening sheep.
The weather is due to hit around 25/28 degrees, which is not the normal for Irish weather. They would have already been cooped up in their trailer for about 5 hours, getting to the town and the farmer likes to hang around the pipe band competitions which take place a few hours before the Sheep race. Now I love bagpipes, but my sisters dog hates them, most animals do...imagine being stuck in a trailor right behind that noise? Terrifying for the poor sheep.
Another year free of that abuse. I pick up the fight again next year. #Arklow #ArklowSeabreezeFestival
