My goal is to enact an ordinance for the Front Royal/Warren County, Virginia area that will protect outside dogs during periods of extreme weather. When temperatures dip below freezing; dogs can experience hypothermia, which occurs when the body is no longer able to sustain normal temperature. Symptoms of hypothermia in pets can range from weakness & shivering, to inaudible heartbeat and trouble breathing. Frostbite can also occur in dogs that have had continual exposure to freezing or subfreezing temperatures. It most commonly affects the tips of the ears, the tail, and the feet (especially the toes). By supporting this petition, you will be helping to enact an ordinance that will require owners to bring their dogs inside in bouts of extreme weather.
