Please write to the Fairfax City Mayor and City Council at WeCare@fairfaxva.gov to urge them to permit all pending trail projects to continue.

The George Snyder Trail project, approved by past city councils and fully funded, was put on hold two weeks ago. With a new deadline of December 31, 2025 granted by VDOT, the council has postponed a final decision and asked staff to come up with an alternate plan. Some councilmembers want to kill the entire project. Others want to eliminate the eastern half and perhaps put the western half on city sidewalks. Either way there would no longer be the envisioned trail running through the woods

On Tuesday April 22, 2025 the council will be reviewing all other pending trail projects. A motion has already been made but temporarily withdrawn to eliminate the Country Club Hills Connector Trail. This trail is about the length of two and a half football fields and would link to the George Snyder Trail. In addition, it would allow easy passage between two large Fairfax City neighborhoods--Mosby Woods and Country Club Hills.

The Pickett Road Connector is another short trail that would connect the Fairfax City Trail to the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail. Once again, this is a project that was approved by previous city councils and is fully funded. Moreover, its design is complete and ready for bidding.
