450 signatures and climbing.... ANZ JUNEE BANK CLOSURE- Explanation The reason for closure is not based on profitability, ANZ Junee is the most profitable branch on the region (ANZ's own figures) The problem lies in what appears on paper. ANZ moved their agribusiness manager to wagga some time ago. The majority of agribusiness BSB's for Junee Shire clients are held at South Wagga ANZ. The profit from these accounts is attributed to the South Wagga Branch. not Junee. HOWEVER, the absolute bulk of the traffic associated with these accounts is handled through the Junee Branch. Despite all this, Junee is till the most profitable branch in the region. This is not a simple problem as you can't expect the agribusiness account holders to close accounts and re-open in Junee. However, closing Junee means everyone will have to travel to Wagga to conduct their over-the-counter business (which is substantial), not to mention highly inconvenient and unproductive. The way in which this announcement has been made also falls well short of ANZ's own policy and procedures on these matters in terms of consltation and community service obligations (all publically available info)... and their stated position for supporting rural communites. On top of this ANZ has just won the CANSTAR 2016 'Agribusiness Bank of the year' award this week. In ANZ's own words: " We're proud to be named Agribusiness bank of the year" Most of Junee's major employers bank with the ANZ and the absolute majority of our farmers bank with them. It is vitally important we take this fight up to the bank as a COMMUNITY, whether you are an ANZ customer or not. Junee is a growing town and shire and there are business and employment expansions taking place in the next twelve months and beyond. The response from the community to both this petition and the paper petition has been extraordinary to say the least. A meeting will be taking place at council on Tuesday 23/8 with representatives from ANZ, Council, Campaign organisers as well as Junee Business and Trades. Had is not been for your action as a community this meeting would not be taking place. We will let you know the result of this meeting and what (if any) further action needs to take place. Thankyou.
