SJRWMD is in negotiations with a local rancher to swap land which includes a vast amount of acreage in the Bull Creek WMA located in Osceola County, Fl.
This deal would allow the rancher to swap useless swamp land for high land that has been used and maintained by the public since the early 1970's from monies earned from license and WMA stamp purchases. The rancher would give up easement rights to his land yet retain ownership and gain the thousands of acres of our land. This sweet deal benefits one family yet takes so much away from so many other families. There is no plan in place to replace our public land with other land and since SJRWMD is a state enity they are exempt from the No Net Loss law which requires the state to replace public lands sold or traded with property of equal or greater value.
Bull Creek is a part of so many hearts in Florida and across the world. Thousands of people enjoy the camping, fishing, hunting, photography, bird watching, butterfly watching, and hiking the Florida Trail. Since there is so little natural Florida left that it open to the public it's important to STOP THIS travesty from happening.
We need to let SJRWMD realize the impact and get them to reject this deal.
