9 years for an 11 week old baby's death but the Court never heard about his previous violence

PROSECUTORS worried about the potential 2021 release of child killer Michael John Humphreys have unearthed a history of previously unknown incidents, including claims Humphreys bashed an 11-week-old boy. Humphreys, 31, was jailed for nine years for the 2012 torture and manslaughter of his ex-partner’s one-month-old daughter. He was sentenced in January this year. Less than six months later prosecutors have applied to make Humphreys a “reportable offender” and added to the National Child Offender system, which would allow police to monitor his movements after his release. Submissions include statements from three former girlfriends who say children were injured in Humphreys’ care. Humphreys’ ex-partner Felicity Nolan, 27, told police that Humphreys confessed to her that he “bashed” her 11-week-old son in March 2010. A medical report tendered in court states the boy had fractures of both his legs near the ankle, which doctors said was usually caused by vigorous shaking, as well as a cut under his eye and bruises. Nolan lived with Humphreys in the NSW town of Cooma in 2009 and 2010. Nolan told police that at the end of their relationship, Humphreys threatened that he was going to get a bikie to “hunt you and your children down if you leave”. She claims he told her the bikie would “slice you open and leave you on an ants’ nest to die”, and that he then kicked her 15 times. Another ex-girlfriend, Shirlena Wright, told police that she left Humphreys when their son was 10 months old after he beat the family dog violently and she feared what he might do to their son. She told police that when she lived with Humphreys in Warwick in 2007, he had shaken the boy “hard” when he was two months old, and he had smacked his son hard when he was six weeks old. Wright said she also suffered violence, with Humphreys asking her how she wanted to die while holding a piece of broken bottle against her throat. A third girlfriend, Karin Kraushofer, 41, told police that her nephew was hurt while under Humphreys’ care in 2008 and 2009. Humpreys is serving a nine-year sentence for manslaughter and torture for beating a one-month-old so badly her skull, ribs and legs were fractured and her liver and pancreas were lacerated. With time served, his sentence is due to expire in 2023. He will be eligible for parole in 2021. .
