May 28 International Day of Action for Women's Health - make abortion legal

Kamala EmanuelBrisbane, Australia
May 27, 2017
May 28th is International Day of Action for Women's Health. It also marks 3 months since the Premier, Deputy Premier and Attorney-General pledged to refer the issue of abortion to the Queensland Law Reform Commission as a step to reforming the state’s out-dated abortion laws. Will you take an action for women's reproductive health in QLD over the next week? Abortion remains on the criminal code. Independent MP Rob Pyne introduced legislation to remove it, but withdrew his bills when the government leaders made their pledge. Abortion shouldn’t be a crime in 2017 and we refuse accept the government’s delays that mean women’s essential reproductive healthcare needs are denied. Campaigners around the state are urging the government to come good on their promise to refer the issue to the Law Reform Commission, and to remove abortion from the criminal code this year. Will you join us? Please email or phone Yvette D'Ath's office this week to ask that the referral to the QLRC happen now, without further delay, and that the QLRC be tasked with responding quickly, to allow parliament to legislate this year to make abortion legal.
