Petition updateAnn Arbor Public Schools Teachers Should Be Compensated FairlyA Message of Gratitude and a Call to Keep Going
L FanAnn Arbor, MI, United States
May 30, 2026

A thousand thanks to you for helping us reach a thousand signatures in less than a month. Our community, our teachers, our children are overwhelmed with gratitude. Our work is not done.  Let teachers know they're not alone by sharing the petition with your friends, family, and social media network.

We also want to take a moment to congratulate the educators at Adrian Public Schools, who just secured a new two-year contract that raises pay and sets a $50,000 starting salary to help recruit and retain educators. That's a start and the beginning of what it looks like when a district invests in its teachers. We are stronger together. Remember why we do this:

🔴  Ranks 44th in the U.S. - Michigan teacher starting pay

🔴 2nd to last in the U.S. - Michigan teacher wages have dropped 20.6% since 1999 (inflation-adjusted)

🔴LOWEST in the region - Ann Arbor $45,910 starting teacher salary

🔴 0.7% average raise over the past 7 years while inflation rose 27%

🔴 Teachers pay 35% of their healthcare premiums - almost double the state standard

🔴 75% of Michigan residents support raising teacher starting wages

🔴 Neighboring districts pay their teachers $3,000–$10,000 MORE per year with LESS funding.

We need 2,000 signatures to keep this front and center with the AAPS Board and District leadership . Please share this petition with your friends, family, social media network and anyone who believes our teachers deserve better. Every signature sends a message that this community is watching and that we will not accept the status quo. Thank you.
