Sofia lay at the side of a Romanian road, shaking in the freezing cold. Someone abandoned her there. Someone caused an injury so severe she couldn’t even lift herself from the ground. Then, they walked away.

A passer-by spotted her trembling at the side of the road. They didn’t look away. They placed a blanket over her, set her gently in a cardboard box, gave her food, and called our frontline-supported rescuer for help.

Friend, when our rescuer reached her, Sofia couldn’t stand. She didn’t make a sound. She had endured too much for too long.

At the vet, we learned she had a broken femur — an injury often caused by blunt force trauma. Whatever caused it would have brought unimaginable pain. And leaving her in the cold, without treatment, only added to her suffering.

Right now, we’re supporting her treatment and pushing for accountability. No one should get away with abandoning an injured dog to freeze on the roadside.
