Our colleagues in Poland found Pedro suffering with an untreated, severe skin condition after travelling over 150km to investigate an animal welfare complaint.
When the complaint was discussed with the owner, who is a wealthy man and owns a slaughterhouse, he explained that he was not willing to pay any money for veterinary treatment and that he would euthanise Pedro.
This was unacceptable. Our colleagues immediately rescued Pedro and rushed him to an emergency veterinary hospital.
Unfortunately, at the hospital, it was found that Pedro was suffering from a bacterial infection and a long-term thyroid condition. But, our colleagues ensured that Pedro had all the treatment that he needed. Pedro still requires ongoing treatment that is costing a lot of money for a small Polish-based NGO.
We want to file a criminal case against Pedro's previous owner to ensure that dogs like Pedro don't continue to suffer at the hands of animal abusers.
